In one of his most famous political analyses, Marx, following Hegel, noted that there was very often in history a process of repetition but that: "the first time as a tragedy, the second time as a farce." (K. Marx: The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, éditions sociales, p. 15, Paris, 1969). What then should we think of the super farce of the pseudo "insurrection" of Trump's supporters against the Capitol: certainly not a coup d'état and at most a coup d'état. A little more than a century after the extraordinary "storming of the Winter Palace" by the workers, soldiers and insurgent peasants of Petrograd, who thereby signed the first revolutionary victory of the twentieth century, the Trumpist buffoonery reverses everything.
